What do I need to play?
Fresh Meat skaters will be allowed to borrow gear (with the exception of a helmet) from the association (or members) a maximum of TWO practices, after that you will be required to purchase your own gear:
- Quad skates
- Knee pads
- Elbow pads
- Wrist guards
- Helmet (skateboard, snowboard)
- Mouth guard
How much does it cost?
Each practice will cost a fresh meat skater $5 to a maximum of $20/month. Once you become a full skate member our membership fee is $20/month with an insurance cost of $50/year.
How much time will it take?
Each practice/scrimmage/bout is approximately 1.5-2 hours. Our full skate members currently practice two to three times per week.
What if I get hurt?
It is not a question of “if”, but a question of “when”. Roller Derby is a contact sport and sprains, strains, breaks, and bruises can and will happen. We train, stretch, and practice falling to minimize injury as much as possible. We encourage skaters to have individual health insurance as our league insurance only covers a bare minimum of expenses.
Where can I purchase gear?
You can purchase gear online at www.rollergirl.ca.
They specialize in gear for roller girls and offer fresh meat packages.
